The Scorpion's Sting

Between the pincer and the tail

Aya,

Much has happened since the last time we had the opportunity to correspond. I hope things have been going well in your province. How is your husband? Is he fully recovered from the trials he endured at the hands of those bandits, many weeks ago?

More importantly, how are you? These times have grown dangerous, and I worry for your safety. I know you are both capable and careful, but when armies of ronin march against the Crane, there is no such thing as too much caution.

I have recently spent some rather tumultuous time in Kyuden Suzume. Without going into too much detail, the Crane have earned a friend in the Sparrow, and hopefully the Three Man Alliance will follow suit. I even had the pleasure of performing for the Suzume Daimyo, himself!

As to the caution I suggested earlier, however…

I do not wish to alarm you, but we have uncovered evidence that the Scorpion have infiltrated some of the minor clans. I cannot imagine they would be as audacious as to do the same for any great clan, but it would set my mind at ease to know you are safe, so if it would not be too inconvenient, you may wish to ensure the identity of all members of your household; prove they are who they say they are. The Scorpion’s capacity for treachery runs deep, it would seem, so we will need to dig just as deep to uproot it.

Unfortunately, with the ronin gathering in the south, it may be some time before I am able to visit you. In an effort to make amends, I will unveil my greatest masterpiece, to date, when I finally do arrive.

In the meanwhile, please be safe. Know that you are in my thoughts.
